What’s Bothering You?

Teeth have plenty of ways of letting you know when something’s not quite right. A sharp zing when you drink something cold. A tooth that suddenly hurts when you bite. Gums that bleed when you brush. Or an ache that’s becoming impossible to ignore. The same symptom can have several different causes, so rather than trying to
diagnose it yourself, come in and let us take a good look.

A Toothache or Throbbing Pain

The nerve inside the tooth may be irritated or inflamed, or there could be another cause. Either way, persistent or worsening tooth pain is worth getting checked.

That Sharp ‘Zing’ With Something Hot or Cold

Hot and cold sensitivity in teeth can have a few different causes, from exposed tooth surfaces and enamel wear to tooth decay or a crack. We’ll help work out what’s behind yours.

Pain When You Bite

Could be a crack, a damaged filling or another problem with the tooth. Even if everything looks fine in the mirror, there may be more going on beneath the surface.

Sore or Bleeding Gums

A little pink in the sink every time you brush? Bleeding gums, redness, swelling or sore gums can be signs of inflammation or gum disease. If it keeps happening, it’s worth finding out why.

Waking up With a Tender or Tight Jaw

Grinding or clenching your teeth could be playing a part, particularly if you’re also waking up with sore or aching teeth or jaw muscles. But it’s not the only possible cause.

A Bad Taste or Bad Breath That Won’t Budge

Persistent bad breath or an unpleasant taste can have several causes, including problems involving a tooth or your gums. We can help narrow down what’s going on.

Can’t quite put your finger on it? That’s okay. You don’t need to diagnose it or even know the right words. Book in, tell us what you’ve noticed, and we’ll take it from there.

Some Things Shouldn’t Wait.

A niggle that comes and goes is one thing. Pain that’s severe, worsening or accompanied by swelling needs prompt attention.

Give us a call if you have:

We’ll ask a few questions, work out how urgently you need to be seen and arrange an emergency dental appointment where appropriate.

When It’s a Medical Emergency

If you have facial swelling that’s spreading, difficulty breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding or serious facial trauma, call 000 or go straight to your nearest emergency department.

Time to Work Out What’s Going On.

1. First, Tell Us What’s Been Happening

Sharp pain? Throbbing? Sensitive to cold? Hurts when you bite? Tell us what you’ve noticed, when it started and what seems to set it off. Even the small details can help us piece things together.

2. Next, We Take a Proper Look

We’ll examine the problem area, along with your teeth, gums and bite where needed. We may also do a few simple tests to help us understand where the pain or sensitivity is coming from.

3. X-Rays, If We Need Them

Sometimes we need to see what’s happening beneath the surface. If an X-ray or other imaging is recommended, we’ll explain why and let you know the cost first.

4. Straight Answers, Always

We’ll talk through what we’ve found in plain English, show you where possible and discuss the options available, including how urgently anything needs attention.

5. Clear Costs. No Surprises Here

If treatment is recommended, we’ll give you the costs before anything is booked or goes ahead. No pressure. You decide what you’d like to do next.

Bleeding Gums?
Don’t Just Put Up with It.

A few spots of blood in the sink can be easy to ignore, especially if your gums don’t hurt. But if they regularly bleed when you brush or floss, feel sore or look red or swollen, it’s worth finding out why.

Gum disease is also more common than you might think, with around three in ten Australians aged 15 and over affected by moderate or severe periodontitis.

Often, bleeding gums are linked to inflammation caused by plaque building up around the gumline. In its earlier stages, this is known as gingivitis. If gum disease progresses, it can develop into periodontitis, which affects the tissues and bone that support your teeth.

So, What Happens If It Is Gum Disease?

First, we’ll assess your gums properly to understand what’s happening. A gum assessment and pocket measurements are included as part of your check-up. Depending on what we find, gum disease treatment may include:

No scare tactics. No telling-off about your flossing habits. Just a clear picture of what’s happening, what we recommend and what it will cost before you decide anything.

Got a Nervous Little One?
We’ve Got You.

Some kids jump straight into the chair. Others need to inspect every button, ask 47 questions and decide whether today is actually the day. Both are perfectly fine with us.

There’s no expectation for your child to sit perfectly still or get everything done in one visit. We’ll meet them where they’re at, take things at their pace and give them the time they need to feel comfortable with us.

Dental Fillings

If tooth decay or damage is behind the problem, a dental filling may be all that’s needed to repair the affected tooth and get it functioning properly again.

Root Canal Treatment

When the pulp inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, root canal treatment in Toowong may be recommended to treat the infection while keeping as much of the natural tooth as possible.

Crowns + Onlays

Sometimes a tooth needs more than a filling. If it’s significantly damaged or weakened, a crown or onlay may be an option to protect and restore the remaining tooth structure.

Gum Disease Treatment

If your gums need a little more attention than a regular clean, gum disease treatment may include deeper cleaning below the gumline or ongoing periodontal care, depending on what we find.

Fluoride Treatment

For teeth that could use a little extra protection against tooth decay, fluoride treatment may form part of your preventative dental care.

Tooth + Wisdom Tooth Extractions

In some cases a tooth simply can’t or shouldn’t stay. If a tooth or wisdom tooth extraction is recommended, we’ll explain why, talk through the alternatives where appropriate and give you the costs before you decide.

Clear Costs. No Surprises. Ever.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, it’s still worth having it checked. Tooth pain can come and go, and the fact that it’s settled doesn’t necessarily tell us what caused it in the first place. If you’ve had unexplained toothache, particularly if it keeps returning, book an appointment so we can take a proper look.

There are plenty of possible reasons, including exposed tooth surfaces, enamel wear, tooth decay, a damaged filling or a crack in a tooth. Rather than guessing, we’ll look at when the sensitivity happens, examine the area and investigate further if needed before recommending any teeth sensitivity treatment.

No. Tooth pain can have several different causes and root canal treatment is just one possible option. Depending on what we find, treatment could be as simple as a filling, or we may recommend another approach. If getting a root canal in Toowong is appropriate, we’ll explain why, what’s involved and the cost before you decide whether to go ahead.

Not necessarily, but gums that regularly bleed, feel sore or look red and swollen shouldn’t be ignored. We can assess your gums, including pocket measurements where appropriate, and check for signs of gingivitis, periodontal diseases or other possible causes. If gum disease treatment is needed, we’ll explain what we recommend and why.

Yes. Wisdom tooth pain can occur while a tooth is coming through or when it remains partly or fully beneath the gum. If the area is sore, swollen or keeps causing trouble, we can assess what’s happening. A wisdom tooth extraction may be one option, but it isn’t automatically the answer.

Yes, of course. We’re upfront about costs and, if treatment is recommended, we’ll provide the fees in writing before anything goes ahead. You’ll have time to ask questions and decide whether you’d like to proceed. For treatment costs, payment options and all the finer details, visit our Fees + Payment Options page.

If there’s one specific problem you want us to investigate, such as toothache, sensitivity or sore gums, our $80 consultation is a good place to start. If you’re due for your regular dental care and would like us to check your overall oral health as well, book a Check-Up + Clean. Still not sure? Give us a call and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Absolutely. You don’t have to get everything sorted in one go. If there’s one tooth, one sore spot or one problem you want us to look at, start there. We’ll focus on what brought you in, explain anything else we notice that may need attention and leave the decisions with you.
