Professional Teeth Whitening Toowong

Stained Teeth? We’ve Got the Solution for You.

Stained teeth are one of the most common things people ask us about. They're also one of the most misunderstood. Because what actually works depends on what caused the discolouration in the first place.

Different Stains. Different Solutions.

Start Simple.

Here’s the thing. Not all tooth staining is the same. Some sits on the surface of your teeth, while other discolouration comes from within the tooth itself. And yes, you can have a bit of both.

The point? We start with the simplest, least expensive and least invasive approach. First, we’ll work out what’s causing the discolouration, then explain which options are worth considering. No whitening for whitening’s sake.

Two Ways to Whiten.
You Choose the Pace.

If professional teeth whitening is suitable for you, there are two ways to go about it. One gets the job done in a single visit. The other lets you whiten gradually at home.

In-Chair Whitening $650

Around an hour. All done here.

We’ll protect your gums and soft tissues before applying professional-strength whitening gel to your teeth. The gel is applied in cycles and carefully monitored by our dental team throughout your appointment.

A good option if you’d prefer to have your whitening completed in one visit.

Take-Home Whitening From $450

Your own custom trays. Your own schedule.

We’ll digitally scan your teeth to create whitening trays made specifically for you, then provide professional whitening gel and show you exactly how to use it. You’ll whiten gradually at home over around two weeks, with the flexibility to adjust things if sensitivity crops up.

Teeth Staining No-Nos.

Before you reach for the charcoal, raid the kitchen cupboard or follow that whitening hack you saw online, a few things we’d rather you didn’t try.

Charcoal + Scrubbing Like You Mean It

More elbow grease does not equal whiter teeth. Charcoal and other abrasive products can wear away the tooth surface over time. Your enamel would rather you didn’t.

Lemon Juice + Apple Cider Vinegar

Great in a salad. Not so great on your teeth. Acid can soften and gradually wear away enamel, so we’d keep both firmly in the kitchen.

DIY Whitening Hacks

TikTok is great for dinner ideas. Dentistry? Maybe not. If a whitening trick came from social media rather than your dentist, we’d probably give it a miss.

Whiten First. Ask Questions Later.

Not our favourite order. Your teeth and gum health need to be considered before whitening. First, we check. Then we whiten.

First Things First.
Healthy Teeth & Gums.

Before we whiten anything, we make sure your teeth and gums are ready for it. That means checking for things like decay, cracks, gum problems or sensitivity that could affect whether whitening is suitable for you. Before we whiten anything, we make sure your teeth and gums are ready for it. And the clean? That matters too. It removes plaque, calculus and surface staining first, so we’re whitening your teeth, not what’s sitting on them.

Whitening. Here’s What It Can (and Can’t) Do.

Teeth aren’t paint swatches. What whitening can do depends on your teeth, their starting colour and what’s causing the discolouration.

Any dental procedure carries some risk. Suitability is assessed individually, results vary between individuals, and you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner if you are unsure before proceeding.

So, What Happens Next?

Whichever whitening option you choose, the process starts in much the same place. Here’s how it works.

1. We Check + Record Your Starting Shade

First, we’ll make sure your teeth and gums are ready for whitening and record your starting tooth shade, so we have a clear point of comparison.

2. Let’s Get You Set Up

Going in-chair? We’ll protect your gums and soft tissues before any whitening gel is applied.Going in-chair? We’ll protect your gums and soft tissues before any whitening gel is applied.

Whitening at home? We’ll digitally scan your teeth to create custom trays made specifically for you. No messy impressions required.

3. Time to Whiten

For in-chair whitening, professional whitening gel is applied and carefully monitored in cycles during your appointment. You get to sit back & relax.

For take-home whitening, we’ll give you your custom trays and professional whitening gel, then show you exactly how much to use, how long to wear them and how often.

4. Aftercare + Keeping Things on Track

We’ll explain how to manage any temporary sensitivity and what to avoid immediately after whitening. If you’re whitening at home, we’ll also explain how to adjust the pace if sensitivity crops up and when a review or top-up may be needed to keep your smile bright.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no set expiry date. How long your whitening lasts depends on your starting tooth colour, the type of staining you have and things like coffee, tea, red wine, smoking and your oral hygiene habits. Over time, some staining is likely to return.

If you choose take-home whitening in Toowong, your custom trays can also be kept for future top-ups where appropriate. We’ll explain when and how to use them safely.

You don’t have to swear off coffee forever. Regular brushing and cleaning between your teeth, keeping up with professional cleans and rinsing with water after strongly coloured food and drinks can all help reduce new surface staining.

For the first couple of days after whitening, we’ll also give you specific aftercare advice about what to eat, drink and avoid.

It can. Temporary tooth sensitivity is a common side effect of whitening and may feel like short, sharp zings, particularly with hot or cold food and drinks.

Tell us if you already experience sensitivity before treatment. We can take this into account when discussing your whitening options and give you advice on managing sensitivity if it occurs.

Possibly. Having sensitive teeth doesn’t automatically rule out professional whitening, but we’ll want to understand what’s causing the sensitivity first.

Depending on what we find, we may recommend addressing the cause before whitening or discussing whether a more gradual take-home whitening approach is appropriate for you.

No. Whitening gel changes the colour of suitable natural teeth, but it won’t change the colour of crowns, fillings or veneers.

Particularly if you have a restoration on a visible front tooth, whitening the surrounding natural teeth could leave the restoration a different colour. We’ll point out anything like this before you decide whether to go ahead.

It depends on why that tooth has changed colour. A single darker tooth can sometimes be associated with previous trauma, root canal treatment or another change within the tooth, so simply whitening all your teeth may not be the right approach.

We’ll assess the tooth first and talk you through the options that may be appropriate for the discolouration.

We don’t provide teeth whitening during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. There isn’t enough evidence to establish the safety of whitening during these times, so we recommend waiting.

Because healthy comes before whiter. Before professional teeth whitening, we need to make sure there aren’t any problems such as untreated decay, cracks or gum inflammation that need attention first.

A professional clean also removes plaque, calculus and surface staining, giving us a clean starting point. And sometimes, you may find the clean does enough and decide you don’t want whitening after all.

Not at Enamel & Mint. We generally allow some time between your professional clean and whitening so your gums have a chance to settle before treatment. We’ll let you know when to book your in-chair whitening in Toowong or begin your take-home treatment.

There’s no honest way to promise you a particular shade. Teeth act differently to whitening depending on their natural colour, the type of discolouration and how they respond to treatment.

We’ll record your starting shade, so you have a clear point of comparison, but we won’t promise you a particular result. Teeth aren't paint swatches, remember?
